Create Procedures List

Create a list of specialties and procedures
that can be imported into the app.

Specialty 1
First procedure
Second procedure
Third procedure
---
Specialty 2
First procedure
Second procedure
---
Specialty 3
First procedure
Second procedure
Third procedure

To add multiple procedures from which to choose when creating a new log entry, one can use the app itself or use the form on the right to enter the specialty and procedures, then click on the "Create & Download File" button. A file containing those procedures will be created and downloaded to your computer, then the file must be imported into the app and can be shared with others.

  • Enter the specialty in the first line.
  • Enter one procedure per each subsequent line (do not use commas to separate the procedures).
  • To enter procedures for more than one specialty, separate the specialties by inserting a line with three or more hyphens (-) followed by a new line containing the name of the next specialty as shown.
  • Click the Create & Download File button.

When you click on the "Create & Download File" button, the specialties and their procedures will be sorted in alphabetical order, and a file named "ProceduresToImport.plist" (a type of XML file) will be created and downloaded to your computer. The file is not saved on this web server.

The ProceduresToImport.plist file can be transferred to the app then added to the list of specialties/procedures from which one can choose. To transfer the ProceduresToImport.plist file to the Procedure Log app, use either the iPhone's Files app, iTunes, or the Finder if you're using a Mac running macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or newer.

Files app icon
There are several ways to transfer a file from your computer to your iPhone using the Files app. See also Apple's support page for more about the Files app.
Note: when using the Files app, a number is sometimes added to the end of the file name being transferred in; e.g., ProceduresToImport 2.plist. This generally occurs after the file has already been present in the Procedure Log app. If this occurs, tap on the file name and select "Rename" from the pop-up menu, then delete the space and number that were added, otherwise, the Procedure Log app will not recognize the file.
Method 1: If you have a Mac, you can use AirDrop.
  • On your Mac, right click (control-click) on the ProceduresToImport.plist file and select Share > AirDrop.
  • In the AirDrop window that is presented, select your iPhone.
  • When the file is received by your iPhone, select "Files."
  • In the Files app, tap the Browse button on the bottom right if not already in Browse view, select On My iPhone > Procedure Log, then tap the Save button at the top right.
Method 2: Email the file.
  • From your computer, email the ProceduresToImport.plist file as an attachment to yourself.
  • Open the email on your iPhone.
  • Tap and hold on the attached ProceduresToImport.plist file until the pop-up menu appears and select "Share."
  • In the share options window, scroll down and select "Save to Files."
  • Navigate to On My iPhone > Procedure Log, then tap the Save button at the top right.
Method 3: Transfer from iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or other file hosting service.
  • Save the ProceduresToImport.plist file to your iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or other file hosting service accessible from the Files app.
  • On your iPhone, open the Files app, go to the file sharing service that has the ProceduresToImport.plist file, and find the file.
  • Tap and hold on the file until the pop-up menu shows, then select "Move."
  • Navigate to On My iPhone > Procedure Log, then tap the Copy button at the top right.
iTunes icon
One can use iTunes to transfer files into the Procedure Log app from your Windows PC (using Windows 7 or later) with iTunes installed or from your Mac using macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or earlier. See also Apple's support page for more about using iTunes for file sharing between your computer and iOS device.
  • Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Click your device in iTunes.
  • In the left sidebar, click File Sharing.
  • Select Procedure Log from the list of apps in the File Sharing section.
  • Drag and drop the ProceduresToImport.plist file from the folder or window where it is located on your computer onto the Procedure Log Documents list to copy it to your device. You can also click Add in the Documents list in iTunes, find the ProceduresToImport.plist file on your computer, and then click Add. iTunes copies the file to the app on your device.
Finder icon
If you have a Mac using macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or newer, you can use the Finder to transfer files to your iPhone. See also Apple's support page for more about using the Finder to share files between you Mac and your iOS device.
  • Open a Finder window.
  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Select your iPhone in the left sidebar of the Finder, under Locations.
  • Click the Files tab to see a list of apps that can share files.
  • Click the triangle next to Procedure Log to see the files in its Documents folder that can be shared.
  • Select the ProceduresToImport.plist file that you want to copy onto the app from where it is located on your computer.
  • Drag the file to the app on your iPhone. The Finder copies the file to your iPhone.

Once the ProceduresToImport.plist file has been transferred to the Procedure Log app, the procedures must be imported into the list of procedures from which one can choose by doing the following:

  • In the Procedure Log app, go to Settings () > Edit Procedures
  • Tap on the import button (—the button at the middle of the bottom toolbar)
  • Select the specialty whose procedures you want to import and tap "OK"
  • Tap on the Import button at the top right.

By installing the ProceduresToInstall.plist file in this way, the list of specialties/procedures in that file will be used by the app as the list of procedures that can be imported rather than the default list that is available for importing. To access the default list of procedures that can be imported, delete the ProceduresToInstall.plist file that you transferred to the app using either the Files app, iTunes (on Windows PCs or Macs using macOS Mojave or earlier), or the Finder (on macOS Catalina or newer).
